Having an ergonomic mouse is great–especially if you’re someone who uses a computer for a large part of the day.  Design by experts in hand health, these mice are proven to reduce strain and discomfort, even if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or are prone to repetitive stress injuries.   In this article we’ll show you the best ergonomic mice for 2011.

Check out:  Amazon’s Best Ergonomic Mice

3M Ergonomic Mouse

Resembling a joystick, this mouse has been shown to be great for people who have carpal tunnel and has received a commendation for “Ease-of-Use” by the Arthritis Foundation.   Its unique, vertical grip design is designed to keep your hand in a neutral position which makes this mouse very comfortable to use.  The buttons on the mouse are activated using your thumb.   One negative with this mouse:  no scroll wheel.  While it does have a “scroll button” you have to physically move the mouse to scroll.  This makes this mouse a bad choice for anyone but the most casual users.  (Very senior / old person friendly).

Evoluent VM4 Vertical Mouse

This next mouse is also gripped a similar way as the 3M Ergonomic Mouse, however its shaped more like a traditional mouse.  Keeping your hand in an upright, neutral posture, this mouse should be comfortable to use for all users.  Unlike the other mouse, this mouse does have  a scroll wheel.  Further, it even has on-the-fly DPI adjustments to make the mouse more or less responsive to movement for accuracy.    To get the most out of this mouse, however, you will need to buy some sort of wrist support.

As quoted from rockdave4 on Amazon.com:  “I have wrist tendonitis and as a mechanical engineer, computing is 95% of my day. Obviously this mouse is not a cure but it does make it possible for me to get through the workday in significantly less pain than I had using a standard mouse. I highly recommend it (Version 4!) for anyone using a mouse for many hours at a time. I have also found the Kenesis split keyboard with the VIP freestyle mount very beneficial.”

Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000

An alternative to the Evoluent VM4 Mouse, this Microsoft mouse looks even more like a regular laser mouse.    Being about twice as tall as a regular mouse, it grips much like you would a base ball.  This mouse also has a lot of the productivity features you would find in typical laser mice.  It has 4 way scrolling, 5 customizable buttons, and built-in magnifier.  This mouse is also fairly affordable compared to some of the other ergonomic mice available.

Black Comfi Ergonomic Mouse By Ergoguys

A major problem people have with ergonomic mice is they’re designed for people with medium to large sized hands.    The cheapest ergonomic mouse of the ones listed here, this mouse is as affordable as it is comfortable to use.   Like the 3M Mouse and the Evoluent Mouse, you grip this mouse vertically in a neutral position.   This mouse is 1000 DPI and has 5 buttons.   If you’re someone with small hands looking for an ergonomic mouse, Ergoguy’s Black Comfi mouse is a great choice.
